It is known that collagen is a structural protein of the skin, which is responsible for structure, density, thickness and appearance of the skin surface. In general, sufficient amount of hyaluronic acid in the body is one of anti-aging factors.Nowadays, injections of hyaluronic acid are an important and pathogenetically substantiated method in the aesthetic medicine. 

They include two application options by a product type:

1) injections of non-stabilized acid in the natural form, and 2) injections of specially modified hyaluronic acid known as stabilized (connected) acid in the form of gel of different density. various involuntary changes. Hyaluronic acid: does the size matter!?

Molecular size (length, weight) of is a key parameter of non-stabilized hyaluronic acid products, because the molecule shortening with the increase of its amount occurs in the body in the process of ageing, which influences on tissue properties. The size of hyaluronic acid (HA) molecule determines the duration and intensity of necessary impact. Products with a molecular weight not more than 900 kDa refer to mesotherapy category and have an average degradation period of 5 - 10 days depending on concentration. So procedures should be carried out on a weekly basis. The increase in a molecular weight (from 1 million to 2.5 million Da) results in the degradation prolongation (to 15-20 days) and decrease in the total number of injections (to 4-5). Nevertheless, products with a molecular size of 1,100,000 – 1,300,000 Da are often produced as the safest and most economically reasonable.

Hyaluronic acid: concentration is a safe way to the best result

Increase in the HA concentration results in the "freezing” effect of degradation and the prolongation of the first phase of product presence in tissues up to 7-10 days. In this period the injected product is perceived by the body as a foreign material, which contributes to the activation of collagenesis mechanism. This moment plays an important role in getting a positive procedure outcome, i.e. positive change of skin properties. Then after delay phase of substance degradation the process of its biodegradation proceeds on the way typical for ordinary products, products with average and small concentration. The difference of products with high concentration has made it possible to divide them into skin boosters (i.e. intense moisturizers) and prefillers (i.e. partial stimulants of collagenesis). Empirical observations and punch biopsy sampling have made it possible to detect that the concentration of 20-25 mg/ml is booster, and higher concentration is prefilling.
